Unlike most children at 8 a.m., the Annapolis Police Department's summer campers were awake and ready to run in yesterday's final track meet.
While the camp trains children on the 100-meter dash, the shotput and the long jump, it also teaches them an important lesson in gang prevention.
In Puerto Rico, the Carolina Police Department has successfully conducted the G.R.E.A.T. summer camp this June 2008, where 155 participants graduated from the G.R.E.A.T. summer program. Policewoman Ruth Herrara, Policewoman Carolyn J. Betancourt, and Policeman Luis D. Lopez, “Thanks for giving us the tools for all the youth and children of Carolina, Puerto Rico.”
Sworn parole officers of the New Jersey State Parole Board conduct G.R.E.A.T. classes for youngsters throughout the Garden State. The New Jersey Star-Ledger recently wrote an article about the G.R.E.A.T. program at St. Rose of Lima School in Newark, NJ.
